The way of Saint James

May 24, 2016

The Way of Saint James is a route taken by pilgrims ( people that visit a sacred place generally walking by a religious reason ) all over the world to get to the city of

“ Santiago de Compostela “ to venerate the apostle Santiago´s relics .

It has become a symbol of fraternity . It has been given the Prize : “ Príncipe de Asturias de la Concordia “ .

The pilgrimage to this place started in the year 821 .

There are many routes that take you to the city . The most famous and used one is the “ Camino Francés “ . There are many other routes such as : “ Camino del Norte, Camino Primitivo, Camino Portugués and La Vía de la Plata “ .

Many authorised organisms hand out a so called credential card . It is a document that provides to its holder the condition of pilgrim; that way the holder of this credential is welcome to stay in the pilgrims shelters .

At the end of the route back in Santiago, the pilgrims receive the “ Compostela “ ( it is a document gave by the ecclesiastical authorities, that certify to complete the route ) : You must do the last hundred kilometers by foot or the last two hundred kilometers by bike .

You also must be physically and spiritually well prepared .

I would never do it, it is very difficult . I am not prepared .
